If It Ain’t Broke

My Dad found out that he had Lipoma a year ago. His left leg was about one and a half times bigger than his right leg. It was not as tender and was occassionally stiff with some slight pain. It didn’t impede his movement though. Lipomas are the most common noncancerous soft tissue growth.
Dude still thinks he’s Spiderman. Since retirement, he’s still been doing contract work for Telecom organizations. I guess being a hands-on person, it hasn’t sunk in yet that he’s hung up his overalls. We had to force him to see a doctor to find out what was wrong with him. The consultant said, after an MRI Scan that he should go for surgery to excise the fat growing around his bone. The risk is having to excise any nerves which WILL impede his movement. So my Dad, the practical guy, told the doc,” Well if it ain’t broke, I ain’t gonna fix it.”
After some encouragement from the family, he decided to try an Ayurvedic approach to solve the problem. So he packed his bags and together with my Mum, went to the World’s First Ayurvedic Center in India. Called KARALAYEEYA AYURVEDA SAMAJAM and established over a hundred years ago, it runs on charitable lines. You can read more about it at http://www.samajam.org/home.html
My parents spent 6 holistic weeks there. No meat. No TV. No noise. Totally rustic living.
My dad came back like a man who re-found his faith. Why? Because what he thought of as the divine truth by a medical doctor was shattered by a 5000 year old belief and practice. He didn’t have to go for surgery at all. After the 6 week treatment in India, not only did the swelling go down, the hardness in his thigh and the occasional stiffness disappeared altogether. He feels like an overhauled Mustang again.
Convinced by the traditions of Ayurveda, it has changed his lifestyle into natural ways and has helped both my mum and him to experience physically, mentally and socially meaningful lives. He doesn’t climb building anymore but now takes long walks with mum along the beach, truly enjoying life after retirement.
