Ayurveda’s Power to Heal Hailed

VARANASI, -  Several functions were organised to celebrate Dhanvantri Jayanti on Thursday. Dhanvantri is considered to be the father of traditional Ayurveda.

Sir Sunderlal Hospital and the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) of Banaras Hindu University organised one such programme at the Ayurveda Faculty.  Speaking at the gathering, Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University vice-chancellor Prof KP Singh said, “Ayurveda has the potential to avert deaths due to 99 unnatural causes.”  He called upon students to carry forward the legacy of Dhanvantri and Shushruta and ensure that every member of the society was healthy and happy.  He said ancient Ayurvedic scholars developed various medicines and methods of treatment on the basis of observations.

Sir Sunderlal Hospital (BHU) medical superintendent Prof Chooramani Gopal stressed the need to scientifically prove the principles of Ayurveda.  She added that Ayurveda therapy could do wonders in the treatment of various diseases.

IMS-BHU director Prof Gajendra Singh presided over the function.  Faculty of Ayurveda dean Prof Manjari Dwivedi welcomed the guests. Dr KK Pandey conducted the programme.  A special puja and vandana was performed.  The local chapter of the National Integrated Medical Association (NIMA) organised a programme in Shivpur area.  It was observed that the need of the hour was to integrate Ayurveda with modern medicine and raise awareness about this traditional mode of treatment.

Dr Subhash Gupta welcomed the guests who are eminent physicians, Dr RN Verma, Dr GC Prasad, Dr RMP Gupta, Dr DN Singh, Dr Kailash Prasad, Dr RK Agarwal and Dr Yogeshwar Singh.
