Lequminosae, found commonly in hillyregions ofcentral and southern India & Ceylon. Amoderate to large deciduous tree with a stout crookedstem and widely spreading branches, thick bark, yellowishgray and scaly. The older trees exude a blood red gumresin. The leaves are 15-23 cms. Long, bipinnately compound,leaflets are oblong, the flowers occur in large panicles,fruit pods 2.5-5 cms., orbicular, flat winged.

Uses :
Alcoholic and aqueous extracts of heartwood producea significant reduction in blood sugar level (hypoglycemic action).Probably by hindering he absorption of glucose in the intestine.
