"For years, I tried to climb the corporate ladder and I was getting nowhere and miserable. One day, I realized, I really had no interest in that corporate ladder - that I was trying to do so to please my parents who were always pushing me to excel because they didn't have that opportunity. It took me until I was in my 30's to realize this. So, one day, I got out of the corporate circus and took a low level administrative job, with regular hours and less pay. I am 42 and have been doing this job for 5 years now. At first, again I was always miserable, complaining that it was boring, that my bosses were jerks. But over time, I realized the joy of having a job that is not stressful and have found ways to occupy myself and be happy at work. As far as dealing with the boss, I am still working on that one but getting better. I have realized that his ways have nothing to do with me and everything to do with his insecurities. So now, I show up to work every day, put on some peaceful music, light some candles, and make the most out of every day at the office. It is my attitude that creates my day, not my job."
