Resuscitate Your Workout Momentum

Bookmark and Share

Reasons why people stop exercising and ways you can kick-start back into it.

You know that exercise is good for your health. Aside from its weight loss and muscle building benefits, it also revs up all other biological functions in your body. But what's stopping you from exercising?

Starting a fitness plan is one thing and staying with the routine is another. Many people start working out with enthusiasm and become exhausted in short time. The reasons for this might be sickness, relocation, or holidays.

But there are people who procrastinate and ignore their fitness plan simply because the thought of working out is tiring. Complaints of tiredness and not having time to exercise are commonly heard. But in fact, lack of exercise is the ultimate reason for feeling lethargic. Just 30 minutes of daily exercise is needed for most health benefits.

The most common reasons that stop people from exercising are:

1. Not used to being active
Most people are programmed with a sedentary lifestyle. It is such a pain for them to embark on a fitness plan as this requires major changes in their schedule and habits.

2. High technology
In today's Internet dependent world, there is less need for people to leave home.

3. Ignorance
People think they can get the benefits of exercises from other sources such as supplementation, nutrition, massage and other medical therapies.

4. Complacency
The consequences of not exercising are not felt immediately. The value of health is only realized when discomfort and symptoms start to appear. People are complacent about their health when they do not feel anything unusual.

You can overcome these excuses with determination and proper planning.

Here are some ways to resuscitate and maintain your exercise habit:

  • Start slow. Start your routine slow. There are many gym goers who try to do too much too soon and inevitably drop their exercise program due to exhaustion, overtraining, and injury.

  • Have fun. While you are at it, have some fun. Periodically, change your routine. Make sure you have a variety of exercises planned out in your program.

  • Do not hide your running shoes. The less we see a certain item, the easier we forget about them. Don't hide your running shoes in the store room; place them where they are easily spotted. They will remind you to workout.

  • Hang your workout attire somewhere you will see. Likewise, don't tuck your workout clothes away. Hang them, instead. Place them where you would instantly see them. This simple technique helps to orient your subconscious mind about what you have to do to stay fit.

  • Get a training buddy. A training buddy will motivate you when you feel lazy, and vice versa.

  • Plan for the unexpected. Avoid giving a break to your routine. Plan ahead and prepare for unexpected circumstances. If a holiday is approaching and you'll have extra activities, reschedule your run in the morning. If you are sick, have a walk around the park for at least 10-15 minutes. If you are on a business trip, make use of the gym or run around your vicinity.

As soon as you accept that your fitness routine is vital for a good life, you will not procrastinate.Consult with a personal trainer if you must. Love your fitness plan and get in shape.
